The New Zealand dollar is New Zealand's official currency and is also used unofficially in Fiji, New Caledonia, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu. It is issued by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and divided into 100 cents, with banknotes in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollars, and coins in 10, 20, and 50 cent, and 1 and 2 dollar denominations.
Introduced in 1967, the New Zealand dollar replaced the British pound at a rate of 2 dollars = 1 pound. Over 27 million banknotes were printed and coins minted that year.
The New Zealand dollar is one of the 10 most traded currencies worldwide, making up about 2% of the global currency market in 2013.
