The Malaysian ringgit is Malaysia's official currency and is also used unofficially in the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. One ringgit is divided into 100 sen, with banknotes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, and 100 ringgit, and coins in 5, 10, 20, and 50 sen.
In 1967, the Malaysian dollar replaced the British Malaya dollar. In 1993, the currency was renamed ringgit, which was used in international trade between 1995 and 1997.
