The Kazakhstani tenge is Kazakhstan's official currency. Banknotes range from 1 to 10,000 tenge, and coins from 1 to 100 tenge.
It was introduced in 1993 after the Soviet Union's collapse. The second series came out in 1998, and the third in 2019 with new denominations.
Kazakhstan took two years to create its currency, involving at least 10 designers. The first tenge was printed abroad, as the local printing press opened in 1995.
