The Kyrgyz som is Kyrgyzstan's official currency, divided into 100 tyin. Banknotes range from 1 to 5000 som, and coins include 1 to 10 som and 1 to 50 tyin.
Introduced in 1993, the som replaced the Russian ruble at a rate of 1 som to 200 rubles.
In 2017, the underlined "C" was adopted as the currency symbol. The word "som" means "pure gold" in Uzbek.
