The Iranian rial is Iran's currency, divided into 100 dinars. Banknotes range from 100 to 50,000 rials, and coins from 50 to 500 rials.
Introduced in 1932, it replaced the toman at a rate of 1 rial = 10 tomans. Prices are still often shown in tomans, and Iran plans to reintroduce the toman as its main currency.
The rial is unofficially used in four other countries but lacks an official symbol since Iran intends to switch back to the toman.
