The Hungarian forint is the currency of Hungary, divided into 100 filler. Banknotes range from 500 to 20,000 forints, and coins from 5 to 200 forints.
The name "forint" comes from Florence, where gold coins were minted in 1252. It was reintroduced in 1946 after hyperinflation.
Hungary plans to replace the forint with the euro soon, as it has met all EU requirements. Some coin denominations are already being phased out.
