The Armenian Dram is the official currency of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The name "dram" means "money" and is linked to the Greek drachma. First used in the Middle Ages (1199-1375), it was reintroduced in 1991 after Armenia gained independence. The Dram replaced Soviet rubles in 1993, with new coins issued in 1994.
