The Albanian Lek, introduced in 1926, is Albania's official currency, divided into 100 qindarka, though these coins are no longer used. Banknotes are 200, 500, 1000, 2000, and 5000 Lek, with coins of 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Lek. Named after Alexander the Great, his image appeared on early coins.
