UAE Dirham and Its History

The UAE Dirham was introduced in 1973, replacing the Qatar and Dubai Riyal. Prior to that, the UAE also used the Gulf Rupee. Although the Bahraini Dinar was widely circulated in 1966, it was not distributed in Abu Dhabi, where the UAE Dirham was eventually issued.
