The Tunisian dinar is the official currency of Tunisia. One dinar is divided into 1000 millimes. This currency is issued by the Central Bank of Tunisia. In circulation are banknotes of 5, 10, 20, and 50 dinars, and coins of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 millimes, as well as ½, 1, 2, and 5 dinars.

The Tunisian dinar was introduced in 1960, replacing the previous currency, the franc, at a rate of 1 dinar equal to 1000 francs. From 2000 to 2010, the Tunisian dinar was particularly unstable due to neighboring countries' active involvement in oil imports and significant economic adjustments.

The import and export of dinars in Tunisia is considered a crime, and penalties may be imposed for such actions. Each year, all citizens are allowed to convert foreign currency up to 6000 Tunisian dinars before leaving the country.
