The Thai baht is the official currency of Thailand, divided into 100 satangs. It is issued by the Bank of Thailand, with banknotes in denominations of 20, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 500, 1000, and 500,000 baht, and coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 baht, and 25, 50 satangs. The baht, originally based on the weight of silver, was introduced in 1897 with a decimal system. By 1910, both baht and satang coins were issued. The Thai baht is one of the world’s most traded currencies. In 2018, it ranked 10th globally. While the Bank of Thailand issues the currency, most of the banknotes are printed by the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation.
