The Tajikistani somoni is the official currency of Tajikistan. One somoni is divided into 100 dirams. This currency is issued by the National Bank of Tajikistan. In circulation are banknotes of 1, 5, 20, and 50 dirams, as well as 1, 2, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 somoni, and coins of 1, 5, 10, 20, 25, and 50 dirams, and 1, 3, and 5 somoni.

The somoni was first introduced in 2000, replacing the Tajikistani ruble at an exchange rate of 1 somoni equal to 1000 rubles. To start the currency, coins were introduced only in 2001 to create a more efficient monetary system.
