Serbian dinar RSD

The Serbian dinar is the official currency of Serbia. One dinar is divided into 100 paras. This currency is issued by the National Bank of Serbia. In circulation are banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 5000 dinars, and coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 dinars and 50 paras.

History of the Serbian Dinar

The Serbian dinar was first mentioned in the Middle Ages in 1214, and historical sources state that it was used until 1459. The first modern dinar appeared in 1868 and was in use until 1920, but due to World War I, the dinar was abolished. However, the current dinar was reintroduced in 1941 and is still in use today.

The current dinar is considered a third-series currency. The Serbian dinar replaced the Yugoslav dinar when Serbia declared independence from Montenegro and the disputed Kosovo territory. However, after the introduction of the Euro, the Serbian dinar continues to be actively used in surrounding regions.
