Macedonian denar MKD

The Macedonian denar is the official currency of Macedonia. One denar is divided into 100 deni. Banknotes in circulation include denominations of 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, and 5000 denars, and coins are available in 1, 2, 5 denar denominations and 50 deni.

History of the Macedonian Denar

The first denar was introduced in 1992, replacing the Yugoslav dinar. In 1993, the currency was reformed, with 1 new denar equal to 100 old denars.

Interesting Facts about the Macedonian Denar

Nearly all denar denominations are identical in design, as the task of creating designs for each banknote was given to a single press worker, who had one week to complete them. According to the bank, all banknotes symbolize the eternal struggle of Macedonian citizens for life in peace and freedom.
