Lebanese pound LBP

The Lebanese pound is the official currency of Lebanon. One Lebanese pound is divided into 100 piasters. Banknotes are available in denominations of 1000, 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 pounds. Coins come in denominations of 50, 100, 250, and 500 pounds.

History of the Lebanese Pound

Before the introduction of the Lebanese pound, Lebanon used the Syrian pound, which was pegged to the French franc at a rate of 1 pound = 20 francs. In 1924, Lebanon began minting its own coins, and by 1925, its currency was completely separated from Syria’s. After World War II, the Lebanese pound became fully independent.

Interesting Facts about the Lebanese Pound

Coins were minted with different designs for each release, leading to confusion in markets. However, since 1986, the current series of coins has been minted with a single design, rendering all previous coins obsolete.
