The Kuwaiti dinar is the official currency of Kuwait. One Kuwaiti dinar is divided into 1000 fils. Banknotes are available in denominations of ¼, ½, 1, 5, 10, and 20 dinars. Coins come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 fils.
History of the Kuwaiti Dinar
In 1961, the dinar replaced the Gulf rupee. During the Gulf War in 1990, Iraq introduced large amounts of Iraqi dinars, but after the occupation ended, the Kuwaiti dinar was reinstated as the official currency.
