Kazakhstan tenge KZT

The Kazakhstani tenge is the official currency of Kazakhstan. Banknotes are available in denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, and 10,000 tenge. Coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 tenge.

History of the Kazakhstani Tenge

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, many countries, including Kazakhstan, sought to introduce their own currency. In 1993, Kazakhstan issued its first series of tenge. The second series was released in 1998, and in 2019, the third series was introduced, featuring new coins and banknotes.

Interesting Facts about the Kazakhstani Tenge

It took Kazakhstan two years to create its independent currency. At least 10 designers were invited to create a unique currency. The first tenge banknotes were printed abroad since the first printing press in Kazakhstan was established only in 1995.
